What some Christian bloggers are (already) saying about Sarah Palin

McCain’s announcement of Sarah Palin as his running mate is barely out, and already the Christian blogosphere is all abuzz. Here is what some of them are saying:

Vox Nova - AK’s Palin -

My husband and I volunteered on Palin’s Alaska campaign when she ran for Governor. Here are a few of my thoughts: First: I have known Sarah Palin for years. How? I met her through AK Right to Life. She always came to our fund-raising dinners, she always came to pro-life events (even when she took time [...]

conservativeintelligencer.com - Palin for VP? Woot!

… Sarah Palin was the one that most inspired me. How could you not love a blue-collar hubby-marrying, pro-drilling, elk-hunting, moose-burger eating, snowmobiling, mother of five who hangs out with the NRA and Feminists for Life? She’s a bit green, but less so than Obama, who has no executive experience whatsoever. …

Mark Byron - A Redneck’s Dream Girl -

…Sarah Palin. On a political level, you have Maverick’s Mini-Me, a corruption-fighting mayor, ethics commissioner and governor, a moderate-conservative who’s pro-life enough to keep the right happy but not so much so that she’ll scare off soccer moms. She did veto a bill that would have banned same-sex partners benefits …

LilacRose - Daring to Hope -

…Governor Sarah Palin is perfect — probably the best decision he has made so far. I’m especially encouraged by the bumbling response from the Obama campaign. Obama manages to insult small-town America and do the pot-kettle thing, since he has no foreign policy experience either and yet he wants to be President. (At least Governor Palin has experience.)

TechCrunch - Fiorina Versus Whitman: Who Would Make A Better Vice President?

…Governor Sarah Palin. As John McCain prepares to unveil his selection for a running mate today, Mitt Romney seems to be a favorite. But two former Silicon Valley CEOs are also on the short list, and they are both women: Carly Fiorina and Meg Whitman. Picking Romney would help McCain solidify his position with the Republican base, but it would a…

Also interesting … a couple of Christian bloggers we’re already talking Palin the past. Here’s what one said this past week:

Charlotte was Both - To Life -

…Governor Sarah Palin recently gave birth to her fifth child, who has Down Syndrome. She and her husband, Todd, showed their new baby, Trig Paxson Van Palin, to a few reporters and photographers and [...]

Here’s her name as early as this past February … the evangelical outpost - The Case Against Romney -

…Sarah Palin or Bobby Jindal, maybe?) and dread the interim. (Mumon on Feb 1, 2008 3:57 PM) Indeed, I believe that Romney is a man who believes in only one thing–getting elected–and all his other political beliefs flow from that single, unshakable conviction. I actually agree 100% with Joe Carter. Wow. Imagine that. But I’d go further,…

Finally … a little humor:

“What could be more denigrating to women?” Sen. Obama asked a crowd of supporters in western Pennsylvania. “I think it’s shameful that Mrs. Palin’s name will always be mentioned after McCain’s and that she’ll earn less money than he will. American women are tired of being put in their place by men …

Mark Byron - 5:03 PM - Palinology-Part I

…of the Palin introduction. She sounds like a keeper. Rush was lapping it up like a puppy left in the sun all day without water. She talked of servant leadership, straight out of the Promise Keepers songbook, a good example of her evangelical roots. “But we are expected to govern with integrity, and goodwill, and clear convictions, and …

the evangelical outpost - 3:55 PM - Around the Horn: Sarah Palin for Vice-President

…Sarah Palin is McCain’s choice for the next president of the United States should something happen to him while in office. Media outlets are buzzing with stories about McCain’s interesting and unexpected nominee choice - here is a quick trip around the horn on McCain-Palin 08: The Trumpet Resounds Tim Grieve and Jonathan Martin give voters …

My own thoughts? Glad you asked … I heard Dick Morris opine the other night that McCain needed to select an outside-the-box veep running mate with a big “oh wow” factor.  I’m thinking Palin fits that bill nicely as my own first thoughts were “oh wow!

I am energized by John McCain’s selection of Sarah Palin. I believe she’ll bring a fresh voice to Washington, a political cesspool that needs to be cleaned. I knew that I could never vote for Obama in the first place and after catching excerpts of McCain at Saddleback Church, I knew that his pro-life views resonated with mine.

Finding a gun-toting, pistol-packing, moose stew eating mother of five from Alaska who is married to a jock, well that got my vote sewn up. Of course, knowing that she is a Christian and respects life certainly did help.

BTW, as far as her daughter’s pregnancy goes, that is an issue for the Palin family one that they’ll handle — by the sound of it, they are showing her unconditional love!

    Be Blessed,
    Matt Keegan

  10. #10 A Most Unchristian Republican Convention - The Seminal :: Independent Media and Politics
    on Sep 6th, 2008 at 2:23 pm

[...] These days, the Republican party often blurs, or even obliterates, the line between religion and politics.  George W. Bush launched an Office of Faith Based Initiatives out of the White House and frequently injects Christian references into his speeches.  John McCain has (incorrectly) declared that the Constitution established the United States as a Christian nation (a bizarre assertion that makes you wonder if McCain has read the Constitution recently–it contains a grand total of zero references to Christianity).  Christian nationalists, who believe in “a Christian right to rule”, are an important part of the Republican party and prominent Christian nationalists or dominionists, like Sam Brownback, Tom Coburn, and Mike Huckabee, are leaders in the party and key advisors to McCain.  Sarah Palin, darling of the religious right, claimed she would govern with “a servant’s heart”, a short-hand reference to Christian humility.  James Dobson and other religious right leaders and their rank and file admirers make up the Republican base that is so energized by the Palin pick. [...]
