So in today’s episode in the ongoing soap opera that is modern-day Presidential politics, we find out that young Bristol is pregnant! And while this is good news for those fighting off some of the shameless spears and arrows of Daily KOS talking points - it has provided some room for those on the left side of the ideological aisle to make hey with the birth-control in schools issue.
That said, if I were them, I wouldn’t push it too hard as eventually someone will utilize the same logic fact that had Alaskan schools had a more rigorous abstinence program, the 17 year old would have practiced a form of birth control that we all know works 100% of the time it is implemented.
Moreover, seeing the reckless glee that has overtaken some parts of the liberal noise machine - despite Obama’s day-late but always welcome declaration that the kids are outta bounds - it won’t be long before some careless commenter or blogger attempts to point out the “family values” issue. At which point the democrats will lose their minds when it is pointed out that any play to the morality of the situation will infer that Murphy Brown was wrong … and that Dan Quayle was right.
Anyway, that’s my two cents. Here are what some other Christians who blog are saying about the whole Bristol Palin mess:
Mark Byron - 4:36 PM - Juno in Juneau
The political news of the day, other than the bare-bonesing of the RNC due to Gustav, is that Sarah Palin’s eldest daughter, 17-year-old Bristol is with child. Rumors were making the rounds that Sarah’s newborn Trig was actually Bristol’s, so they came clean with the younger Palin’s improprieties. Bristol is planning on marrying the father of the child and keeping the kid.
There are a number of good parents who had children “jump the gun” sexually. A set of great-grandparents I know of were part of a shotgun wedding, as was an aunt and uncle. The great-grands had a solid death-do-them-part marriage, as have the aunt and uncle so far (47 years and counting).

…Going After Palin’s Daughter Townhall mentions some of the disgusting, spineless attacks on Palin and her daughter that are coming out of the lefty blogosphere (and being read by millions). Works and Days - 10:13 AM - Palin: too much Hope and Change?
It did not take a vicious Andrew Sullivan and the Daily Kos long, in despicable fashion, to start directing our attention to pictures of the Palins’ sixteen-year-old daughter, with the unhinged suggestion that she was really the mother of Sarah Palin’s recent child—all this from liberal humanists who lecture the nation hourly about Rovian politics. In their world of the self-anointed, the filthy ends of smearing a teen-ager always justify the noble ends: who cares about destroying the reputation of the Palin family if it brings us the Messiah? (Watch the retreat to victimhood when the untruths from these purveyors of slander are exposed as absolutely false; it will be something like: if you allege I’m a smear artist, then you are thereby a smear artist.)

One final personal note - as an individual who spent almost 15 years working with church youth, I can tell you first hand: anyone who has worked with 16 and 17 year-olds for any length of time will eventually see one of these kids deal with a teen pregnancy.
The reasons are simple. It is not because of any surplus or lack of sex education in our schools nor bad parenting, it is because of a sex-saturated media hammering away at human beings whose bodies are ready to breed but whose brains are often still immature to the point that they don’t realize that:
- they are not indestructable
- yes, it can happen to them
At least when that happened to a model youth ministry member when she went off to college her first year. The end result was that she and her boyfriend became husband and wife, the child is amazing, and they’ve managed to earn college degrees though having to tough-it-out at night between jobs an turns watching the baby.
Life goes on.
