Note to the Alliance Defense Fund - This is not censorship

Joyful Christian also writes about the reckless and financially suicidal ‘die by the sword‘ “Pulpit Initiative”  launched by the Alliance Defense Fund, writing:

Apparently, a bunch of preachers plan on endorsing candidates from the pulpit today, intentionally endangering their congregations’ tax-exempt status.

This stunt is designed to challenge the “censorship” of the Internal Revenue Code. You see, churches, like all other organizations exempt from taxation under Sec. 501, are not allowed to engage in political advocacy if they want to maintain their tax-exempt status.  This has, from time to time, been labelled government “censorship”.  The author of the piece I quote claims it violates the first amendment.

Except that it does

I agree … moreover, this is entitlement thinking that not only shows a lack of Constitutional understanding, but ignorance of Romans 13Open Link in New Window, Mark 12:17Open Link in New Window … and most importantly Matthew 26:52Open Link in New Window.

Put another way, there are plenty of other places to justifiably take the fight … however battle is not one of them.
