What do some Christians who blog think about the Nashville-base Obama McCain Presidential debates over over the economy, taxes, diplomacy and personal judgment? Well I won’t speak for the whole body, but here are some snippets by some Christians whomi blog to getcha started …
… starting with two entries from two different bloggers at the Evangelical Outpost:
Who won the debate? - Rachel Motte
It all depends on who you ask. Democrats will say that Obama won. Republicans will probably tell you that McCain dominated. Radio audiences will have a different take than TV audiences, etc.
Then there’s Drudge, who just says it was “Boring.”
My take? I think both candidates did very well.
Yes, Rachel while may be true, both being equally dull. However I usually find today’s media usually giving the more liberal candidate the nod in such situations.
Liveblogging the McCain/Obama Presidential Debate #2 - Dustin Steeve
6:04 - Obama: ‘we are in a worse economic situation since the depression. The fault: the worst economic policies of the last eight years. They deregulated.’
… 6:29 - McCain: ‘We need to have a spending freeze.’
… 6:30 - Obama: ‘President Bush, after Sept. 11, said “Go out and shop.” That is not the kind of leadership we need.’
… 6:37 - McCain: ‘Obama’s tax plan raises taxes on 50% of small businesses.’
… etc, etc, etc, and so forth …
Nice work Dustin … and for even more fine-tuned live blogging …
… OrthoCuban delivers the goods in about 20 minute increments:
- McCain vs Obama, second debate, 70 minutes to end - … like a couple of boxers, both are getting to the slightly punch-drunk stage. They are trying to maintain energy, …
- McCain vs Obama, second debate, 50 to 70 minutes - Sen. Obama completely misunderstood the first question or has deliberately sidestepped it. It was a philosophical question. Should healthcare be a “commodity” …
- McCain vs Obama, second debate, 30 to 50 minutes - The first Internet question is an excellent one. Sacrifices will have to be made. What sacrifices would you ask the American people to make?
- McCain vs Obama, second debate, first half hour - Not surprisingly the first question was on the economy and what the candidates would do.
The Scriptorium Daily: Middlebrow - What if . . .?
The debate tonight was a draw.
I agree with McCain more on the issues, so I thought he won on points, but my bias probably accounts for much of this. However, and maybe I was the only one, tonight for the first time, I became afraid of what both politicians, but especially Senator Obama, are proposing in the middle of this serious economic time. Much of it sounded exactly like the sort of thing one reads from the early 1930’s . . . and in a bad way.
Unfortunately, I agree with John Mark on this one. Michelle Malkin rings the bell on one of McCain’s “great society”-like plans with “McCain wants to spend $300 billion to buy up bad mortgages; Martin Feldstein behind it.”
Well that and I’m thinking there might be some moderates in the Middle East getting a bit uneasy about both candidates right about now … but I digress … more on that later.
And a little (further) off track, Pursuing Holiness with: And you thought rational debate on the internet was impossible!
To be honest, I wasn’t too sure rational debate on the internet was possible - it usually quickly devolves into ad hominems and every other kind of fallacious argument. However, a new site looks like it may be possible. Opposing Views …
My conclusion of the above? A bit more live blogging by bored-outta-my-skull individuals than bingo … but still mostly stump speeches using the premise of stupid, insipid questions to prove to us that as a Nation, we need to do a better job in the primaries …
… even if Bill Dyer guest blogging over at Hugh Hewitt tried to spin it as ‘”The Audacity of Hope” versus “The Erosion of Doubt“.’
